Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist

Dr. Amar Chakra was raised in Oklahoma City, OK. He attended Emory University in Atlanta for his undergraduate education and studied at King’s College London before moving back to Oklahoma City to attend medical school at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He finished his residency in general psychiatry at the University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine in Tulsa, OK, and completed his fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of California Davis.

During his training, he co-authored numerous publications and presented at multiple national psychiatry conferences. After completing his training, he was given a teaching appointment at the University of California Davis where he helped train new child psychiatry fellows. He has worked in various clinical settings including a psychiatric emergency department, an inpatient psychiatric ward, an adult partial hospitalization program, and in the California state correctional system. Dr. Chakra was the program director of the adolescent intensive outpatient program of a large mental health system in Sacramento, CA before moving back to Atlanta and joining Amen Clinics. His clinical interests include childhood to adult ADHD, child and adolescent sports psychiatry, cross-cultural psychiatry, and early-onset psychosis.
